The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has announced that 70% of its ongoing maintenance work is complete, positioning the company to resume gas supply to Tema within schedule.
The maintenance project involves offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection, a process known as pigging. Originally scheduled to begin on February 3, 2025, the project is on track for full completion by March 2, 2025.
During a press briefing at WAPCo’s site in the Tema Industrial Area, Benoni Owusu Ayeh, Operations and Maintenance Superintendent for Western Operations, assured the public that the company remains committed to meeting its deadline.
“Considering the travel distance and our initial projections, we are confident that we will complete the exercise before March 2. Everything is progressing as planned, and unless unforeseen circumstances arise, we should finish on time,” Ayeh stated.
He added that gas supply to Tema and Lomé is expected to resume shortly after the maintenance. However, inspections in Cotonou, involving the use of six pigs, will cause a slight delay, with supply resuming between March 5 and March 7.
The maintenance work is essential to maintaining the efficiency and safety of the gas pipeline, which is a critical component of Ghana’s energy infrastructure.
