The Minority Leader, Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has voiced serious concerns regarding the recent alleged termination of public servants’ appointments across key institutions in Ghana by President John Dramani Mahama.

“The 1992 Constitution of Ghana clearly protects public sector workers… These mass dismissals, executed without individualized assessments or adherence to legal procedures, seemingly violate these fundamental legal principles and undermine public confidence in our state institutions,” Mr. Afenyo-Markin stated in an official letter addressed to the President.

The statement urged the President to rescind the Chief of Staff’s directive, reinstate the affected employees, and uphold the constitutional rights of public servants.

“By taking immediate corrective measures, you can rectify this apparent constitutional violation and spare the affected individuals and their families the distress of prolonged legal battles to assert their right to work and protection from discrimination,” the statement emphasized.

It further recommended that the Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment be tasked with ensuring that all public institutions comply with the directive to reinstate the dismissed employees. Additionally, the Minister should submit a comprehensive report within 30 days to both the President and Parliament, outlining the actions taken to resolve the issue and prevent future occurrences.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin asserted that these proposed actions would not only address the current injustices but also demonstrate the administration’s commitment to good governance, inclusivity, and the rule of law.

“They will stand as evidence of your leadership and steadfast dedication to the welfare of all Ghanaians. While affected individuals may pursue legal remedies under Articles 2(1) and 130 of the Constitution, I firmly believe that your prompt intervention can prevent the need for prolonged litigation,” the statement concluded
