On Friday, February 21, 2025, the Ghanaian Presidency unveiled the official logo and theme for the nation’s 68th Independence Anniversary. The commemoration, set for March 6, 2025, will center around the theme “Reflect, Review, Reset.” This theme encourages citizens to contemplate the country’s journey, assess its current state, and strategize for future progress.
In a press briefing, Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced a significant change in the celebration’s venue. Departing from the traditional Independence Square, this year’s events will be hosted at the Jubilee House in Accra. This decision is part of the government’s initiative to reduce expenditures associated with the annual festivities.
Mr. Ofosu elaborated on the planned activities, highlighting that the event will feature a Military Guard of Honour, which President John Dramani Mahama will review. Additionally, there will be cultural performances by groups of basic school pupils and a poetry recital by a senior high school student. The audience will comprise selected chiefs, religious leaders, students from various educational levels, traders, political party representatives, and other distinguished members of society.
The President’s ceremonial address will underscore the day’s significance, aligning with the “Reflect, Review, Reset” theme. This approach aims to foster a modest yet meaningful celebration, ensuring that the essence of Independence Day is preserved while exercising fiscal responsibility.
In conjunction with the main event, all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies across the country will conduct their own modest ceremonies, ensuring nationwide participation in the commemoration. Furthermore, the historic 28th February Christianborg Crossroads Shooting Incident will be commemorated as part of the Independence Anniversary activities.
This year’s theme and the decision to host the celebration at the Jubilee House reflect the government’s commitment to prudent resource management while honoring Ghana’s rich history and cultural heritage
